The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has established the country's first Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) Technology Center in Chengdu.
The new center is developing equipment to test SAF products, expecting China's aviation fuel consumption to exceed 50 million metric tonnes per year by 2030 and SAF use to reach 2.5 million tonnes. SAF is produced from renewable wastes such as waste cooking oil and animal fats, or from hydrogen produced from renewable energy sources, providing an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional jet fuel.
On 3 September, as part of the ICC Russia International Trade Day in Vladivostok, an open discussion will be held between representatives of Russia and China on practical steps to implement carbon unit exchange and further sustainable development of the economies of the two countries.
Questions for discussion:
• Unified carbon market infrastructure;
• Availability of trusted verifiers of climate projects;
• Creation of a common technological platform of registries of carbon units of China and Russia.
